About Playa el Carabassí
Within the Municipality of Elche
Gran Alacant´s beach Carabassi Playa belongs to the Municipality of Elche and part of it is coastal but the city is 11 km from the sea.
Gran Alacant is fortunate to have this wonderful beach on our doorstep. And over the last few years our local beach has seen many changes with the installation of walkways, showers, beach bars, childrens play areas, water sports centre and the Blue Flag Award for cleanliness.
July and August
Awarded Blue for Cleanliness
In June 2010 Carabassi Playa was awarded it’s first Blue Flag as part of the Blue Flag programme and Carabassi beach continues to receive this prestigious Blue Flag Award.
Ecosystem
Carabassi beach offers a wonderful example of the dune ecosystem. Here we find wide fine sandy beaches with small embryo dunes and a great variety of flora species. As you enter the beach alogn the walkways there are dunes fixed by the presence of large bushes and trees.
Over the last few years Gran Alacant´s residents have seen many changes to the Carabassi beach.
In order to receive the Blue Flag, there were many new facilities built along the coast… children´s play areas, showers, beach walkways plus much more.
How to get there by Bus
Gran Alacant´s bus travels in an anti-clockwise direction around Gran Alacant stopping at Carabassi beach.
How to get there by Tourist Train
Look out for a blue and white road train that makes 12 stops on a anti-clockwise circular route around Gran Alacant giving you the chance to see Gran Alacant´s wonderful scenery, sea breeze and charm in a quiet, relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere.
