About Faber

- Faber is a little boy of 3 years age who has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma tumor in his neck, kidney and his bone marrow

- Friends and family have setup the foundation `Faber goes USA´ to give Faber the opportunity to travel to America for an immune treatment therapy, which gives a 30% higher chance of survival and to minimize the chance of recurrence

Welcome to Foundation “Faber Goes USA”

Faber, a sweet and energetic boy of 3 years old, lives with us and his younger brother Morris in Eindhoven, Holland.

On the 25th of March our nice life changed dramatically because the doctors discovered a neuroblastoma tumor in his neck, kidney and his bone marrow.

This means that Faber has a category #4 neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is diagnosed at 1/100.000 children between 0 and 6 years old and thus effectively ~25 children per year in Holland.

The prognosis of this sort of cancer varies a lot. Category #1 and #2 will usually go away by itself, category #3 is “well treatable” and category 4 has the worst prognosis -> between 20% and 50% chance of survival.

A neuroblastoma in category #4 is treatable, but it’s a very heavy and intense treatment. Faber will undergo five chemo-therapy’s, surgery, than one more very high-dose chemo-therapy and then radiation. On that moment (approx.. 7 months later) Faber should be “cancer-free”, but the chance of recurrence is very high.

To minimize the chance of recurrence, Faber can go to America for an immune treatment therapy, which gives a 30% higher chance of survival.

This therapy will take approximately 6 months, receiving 7 very painful treatments of 4 days each. To understand the pain, you must know that they accompany each treatment with morphine. After each treatment, Faber’s condition is back to 0%, which means that he has to recover and therefore no possibility of flying back to Holland in between the treatments.

The health insurance in Holland will only reimburse a part of the costs Faber to have this immune treatment. There are a lot of other costs, which are not covered like: accommodation, travel and of course all “fixed” costs in Holland.

To ensure the possibility of this treatment for Faber, friends and family have setup this foundation with the name: Faber goes USA. This foundation has set itself the goal to generate sufficient funds for covering the costs which arise from the desperately needed treatment of Faber Wijdeveld for his anti-body treatment in Philadelphia, USA.
