This was my first opportunity to run in the Abel Antón cross country run.
I presumed it would be a flat course but as it turned out, it was at least 4km up hill, and, off road. The application process was a simple online form to fill in and “race” numbers and running vests available for collection at the Gran Alacant Comercial Centre on Saturday 1st October 2016.
In all there were about 260 participants taking part in what proved to be a good course. It was hot on the day but the water station at halfway was welcome. Any thoughts of running at my “training” pace were forgotten about in the first few metres when the run begins and you get carried away at a race pace. This gave me my best time over 10km for a long time. Thanks to the organisers, sponsors and supporters.
A good event, a challenging run and a good finishing time. I will be back next year for another attempt.
In the meantime, there is the small matter of the Santa Pola 21km in January 2017.
